Know Your Wall Before You Drill

Each wall type needs a different anchor or mounting approach — using drywall anchors on a plaster-and-lath wall, for example, will not hold a 50 lb television safely.
Choosing the Right Bracket
A fixed mount sits closest to the wall and suits a TV positioned at eye level. A tilting mount helps when the screen has to sit above eye level, like over a fireplace. A full-motion (articulating) mount lets you pull the screen out and angle it — useful in open-concept living/dining rooms where you might watch from more than one seating area. Always check the bracket's weight rating against your TV's actual weight, not just its screen size.
Cable Management
Running cables through the wall (with an in-wall power kit) gives the cleanest look, but it's not possible on every wall type, particularly concrete or brick. A slim cable channel or raceway painted to match the wall is a reliable alternative that still looks tidy.
